How do I play Duskfade?
Third-person action-platformer. Chain Jump, Dash, and Grapple, swing Minutero, spend Upgrade Gears on three skill trees. No classes and no Roblox-style codes.
Duskfade beginner guide: first hours in Tick Town, Jump–Grapple movement, Minutero, Upgrade Gears, Clock Hearts, and why demo progress does not carry over.
Watch the opening stretch — Minutero, early movement, and the first Tick Town hour — before you spend Upgrade Gears.

This Duskfade beginner guide is the first-hours playbook for Duskfade by Weird Beluga / Fireshine Games. You play workshop apprentice Zirian, travel with mechanical bird Cuckoo, and swing the clock-hand blade Minutero — the only main weapon. The loop starts in Tick Town, not a class select. | Demo | Does not carry into the full game. Start a fresh save. |
A Duskfade beginner guide search usually wants the opening hour, not a 100% route. Duskfade opens as a story beat, then a movement tutorial, then the hub. Do not skip the chain that teaches Jump and the first combat string — later regions assume you already have that muscle memory.
Coverage of the start: Zirian comes home, Allira vanishes in the explosion that freezes the land into eternal night (some writeups name Tearfeld / Tairnfeld — spelling unverified), and you pick up Minutero — the clock-hand blade that belonged to their grandfather. Inky enemies appear immediately. Combos are wide sweeping strikes; a timed swing can deflect projectiles. A double jump plus a dodge roll covers more ground than jump alone.
Meeting Cuckoo (the clockwork bird Allira is believed to have built) ends that tutorial stretch. You then land in a fractured Tick Town. The Clock Tower is already locked by huge chains. That is the real game: hub → region → chain → boss → home.
The demo covered the opening through the first boss and later added Tick Town, extra NPCs, and difficulty options. None of that save carries. If you practised there, treat the full game as a new file. The walkthrough is the region index once you leave town.
Official materials sell Duskfade as one continuous chain: Jump → Dash → Grapple → Swing → Glide → Combat. The first hour only needs the front of that chain. Gadgets that come later reopen old Tick Town and biome paths, which is why this Duskfade beginner guide tells you to learn movement before you shop.

| Move | When you use it | First-hour note |
|---|---|---|
| Jump / Double Jump | Height and distance | Base kit — practise the second jump before you hunt ledges |
| Dash / Dodge Roll | Gaps and i-frames | Air dash appears in coverage; roll also extends a jump |
| Grapple | Hook points and some enemies | Unlocks mid-opening; backtrack the moment you have it |
| Glide | Long drops and wide gaps | Later — do not stall the first region waiting for it |
| Rail Grind | Mine / track lines | Later biomes; also described as shield-adjacent in some writeups |
| Blast / Chronoblast | Time-energy gadgets | Spend Temporal Energy; refill by dealing damage. Inputs TBA |
Retail coverage unlocks the hook-shot toward the end of the first world. Demo footage places it on the volcanic path before Wrath. Who hands it over stays TBA — Arpeggio is the music-box NPC, not a confirmed gadget tutor. Once Grapple exists, hook points you walked past become new routes. That is the Metroid-style rule for the whole run, not a one-off.
Gadgets are not a second weapon pool. They sit on a Temporal Energy bar that refills when you deal damage, and you can switch unlocked specials in combat. Chronoblast is the high-damage blast the developers nicknamed a shotgun. Exact costs stay TBA — do not invent a rotation. Full kit: abilities.
Movement is only half of the first hour. The other half is the one blade you will never replace.
Official Q&A is blunt: Zirian always wields Minutero. This Duskfade beginner guide will not give you a weapon tier list. Rainbow Ingots change how the blade looks, not which blade you hold. Learn light, heavy, lock-on, and perfect dodge before you mash.

| Input | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Light / heavy | Default ground and air strings — mix, do not only heavy |
| Lock-on | Keep a target; early builds were not a hard lock |
| Perfect dodge | Timed dodge → short slow-mo punish window |
| Projectile swing | Coverage: a well-timed slash can deflect incoming shots |
| Gadgets | Blast / Chronoblast when the Temporal Energy bar allows |
| Cuckoo | Companion assist — not a second sword |
Inky clockwork foes surround fast. Jump and dodge are part of the string, not panic buttons. Potions appear in the world (demo coverage opens a chest with Minutero like a key). Refill rules and stack limits stay TBA.
Every boss fight in official structure mixes combat with a platform phase each time the health bar drops 25%. The first widely covered fight is Wrath (demo end): lunges, slams, spread and burst projectiles, then a centre charge you interrupt by Grappling the outer platforms. Treat that as the template, not a one-off gimmick. Inputs and later roster names: combat and bosses.
Once you can survive a pack without wasting potions, the next decision is where the first Upgrade Gears go.
Duskfade has no traditional levels. You find Upgrade Gears in the world and spend them in Tick Town on three trees. Node prices stay TBA on purpose — this page only ranks intent, not a fake gold-cost table.
| If you are stuck on… | Spend gears on | Leave for later |
|---|---|---|
| Gaps you cannot clear | Zirian movement / Dash / Grapple nodes | Cosmetic Minutero skins |
| Dying in packs | Survivability on Zirian, then Minutero specials | Cuckoo flavour assists |
| Boss platform phases | Grapple and mobility first | Rainbow Ingot hunts |
| Wanting a new look | Nothing — Ingots and Palette outfits are not power | Any combat node you still need |
| Empty Temporal Energy | Gadget nodes once Blast / Chronoblast exist | Maxing a tree you do not use yet |
Minutero — weapon attributes and special moves. Zirian — movement, gadgets, survivability. Cuckoo — support skills. Health is not a gear node; it is Clock Heart Pieces. The Traveler also sells items and upgrades (there is a buy-everything achievement). Shop stock and prices stay TBA. Tree list: upgrades.
Demo and community coverage also show Star Shards from boxes and enemies. Treat them as a world pickup, not a second XP bar, until a formal sink is captured. Do not import third-party wiki “gear rarity” pages — those RPG terms are not how Duskfade is built.
Gears make you stronger. Hearts keep you alive. The next section is the one beginners walk past.

Three Clock Heart Pieces become one health pip. There is a max-health achievement, so the pieces are finite, but the published total stays TBA. Grab every piece you see in the first hours. Cosmetics can wait; a missing pip cannot.

| Pickup | First-hour rule | Where the rest lives |
|---|---|---|
| Clock Heart Pieces | Always take — 3 = 1 pip | Collectibles |
| Upgrade Gears | Take, then spend in Tick Town | Upgrades |
| Temporal Energy | Bar for gadgets; max is a later achievement | Abilities |
| Rainbow Ingots | Looks only — skip if a fight is hard | Collectibles |
| Music Boxes | Return to Arpeggio later | Collectibles |
| Cards / kittens / Wally / Echoes | Note the spot, do not derail the first region | Collectibles |
Echoes play past conversations inside a cosmic-style bubble. They are worldbuilding, not a damage stat. Open them when you are safe. The Echoes menu exists; a full index stays TBA.
New movement reopens old ledges. Community totals such as “203 collectibles” are third-party titles, not an official count. Hunt hearts and gears now; leave kittens, Wally, cards, and stained-glass secrets for a backtrack pass. Habits: tips.
Knowing what to pick up is useless if you never go home to spend it.
Tick Town is the hub, not a one-time prologue. Cloudie NPCs live here. Dialogue updates after story beats. You spend Upgrade Gears, talk to the Traveler, change looks with Palette, and pick the next chain from here. Reviews describe four Clock Tower chains; the developer site says five major regions. Follow the in-game locks — count TBA.
Tick Town has its own Temporal Anchor (story achievement) and side paths that open with later gadgets. Treat the hub like a region you will revisit, not a menu. Geography: locations. Cast: characters.
About 11–16 hours main · ~16 hours toward 100%. Community platinum estimates sit around 9–12 hours on an easy story setting. The first hour should end with one region understood and a planned return, not a forced 100%. Full order: walkthrough.
If the first hour felt messy, scan the mistake table before you leave town again.
Scan this before a second sitting. Each row is a process error, not a hidden stat.
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Continuing a demo save | Start a fresh full-game file — nothing inherits |
| Shopping cosmetics first | Movement and survivability nodes first — upgrades |
| Ignoring Clock Heart Pieces | Three pieces = one pip; take them when you see them |
| Treating Minutero as loot | One main weapon. Ingots are skins |
| Standing still in packs | Jump, dodge, then punish the slow-mo window |
| Skipping Grapple backtrack | Hook points behind you are new routes |
| 100% before new gadgets | Leave kittens, Wally, cards, and ingots for cleanup |
| Never returning to Tick Town | Spend gears and talk after each region |
| Mashing heavy on bosses | Learn the 25% platform phase — bosses |
| Importing RPG wiki terms | No classes, no rune market, no multi-weapon pool |
After every new move, turn around once before you push the story marker. That single backtrack catches more Upgrade Gears and heart pieces than a later checklist. When the first loop feels automatic, open the walkthrough for chain order — including community region names marked TBA.
